Well, as often happens around here, the previous thread on chisels got me thinking (dangerous), and of course I head out shopping and before you know it, I have some new tools again. I headed out to our local Woodcraft the day after Thanksgiving looking for the "Two Cherries" chisels everybody was speaking so highly of. As it turns out Woodcraft didn't carry Two Cherries, so I ended up looking at the Crown, Blue Marples (Irwin), some Swiss brand, a few Japanese style, but I finally ended up with some chisels by Robert Sorby. I wasn't familiar with them, but they sure felt comfortable, and the guy at the store said they used good steel, so I bought them. They were on sale for $140 for a set of 5, so I guess that was a good price for a quality set of chisels. I just spent an hour grinding and honing them all on my Tormek and they are ready to go. I'll test them out this week as I carve out the ramp slots on my classical headstock. The job should go much easier considering the old chisels I had were junk.

Oh yeah, I picked up a Marples 1/8" chisel for $9.00. The Sorby chisel of the same size was $60. I couldn't justify the increased price for how little I use that size.

I use Robert Sorby paring chisels in my workshop. Theyre a joy to work with.

The Sorby chisels have a fancy look, i like!

Robert sorby are good quality no doubt! I have read some reviews on them and they stack up with other high end chisels very nicely - Good buy - enjoy them!

Congratulations! I have those same Sorbys... boxwood octagonal handles. Really something in the feel of the handle makes them very accurate tools. I love them.
